WAIST BEADS
History
The concept of Waist Beads originated with the Yoruba women of Africa. The practice branched out throughout Nigeria, Ghana, and other countries around the world, even dating back to Egyptian Hieroglyphics. In Ghana specifically, waist beads symbolize wealth, femininity, and aristocracy. Traditionally waist beads are worn underneath clothing, a sacred garment only the woman herself and her husband will see. Colors of the beads typically signified each particular tribe.
Today, waist beads have caught westernized culture trends. American women wear waist beads for jewelry apparel, monitor waist size, or to embrace femininity as well.
Misconceptions about Waist Beads:
“Waist beads are only for skinny women.”
“Waist beads have to be worn exactly at the waist (navel)”
“You have to be fit to wear waist beads”
Waist beads are intended for women, ALL types of women regardless of their curves. To primarily embrace personalized femininity! To overall feel sexy, empowered, and confident in one’s senuality. Waist beads can be worn on, above, or below the navel (High-waisted, Navel, or upper/lower Hips).

How to Measure Your Waist:
1.) Measure standing up with bare skin (No clothing).
2.) With loose measuring tape, measure exactly where you would like your beads to fall (lay). With the Zero at your starting point in one hand, hold the opposite side of the measuring tape around the waist meeting back at the starting point (zero). Record your measurement.
3.) Keep in mind how tight/loose the measuring tape is against the skin.
4.) Repeat to ensure accuracy.
